Arizona Gold KAZG is the Valley’s lone remaining oldies station with constant gifts of “14 in a Row” commercial-free music. Where else can you hear
more Turtles, Four Tops, and Tommy James– as well as the Beau Brummels and Herb Alpert? This “Arizona Goldmine” has it all.
Recently, a few shows have been added to the station’s daily programming. The long-running Valley food and restaurant show, “Culinary Confessions with Kim & Don”, air weekdays 11am to 1pm. A sports-talk show called “The Bandwagon”, air weekdays 4pm to 7pm. Both shows have been rescued from AM 1310 KXAM, which went dark in mid-April 2009.
KAZG’s real secret fanbase, however, has been compiled of those oldies-lovers. They commonly refer to the station as the “Lumberyard”, for its radio tower location that only they would likely know off the top of their heads. The tower is directly behind a lumberyard on the southeast corner of 64th St. and Thomas Rd., and the transmitter building is accessed from a dirt path parallel to the canal.
