Community is the focus of KSJC. Our radio station reflects the diversity of ideas, opinions and musical tastes found in this remote mountain hamlet. Founded in 2004 by a handful of local citizens, the station was created to serve the Silverton community through the low-power FM broadcast of events, discussion, ... See more , education, news and music. KSJC achieved 501-c3 non-profit designation in the later part of 2006, making tax-deductible donations possible. KSJC has steadily increased the number of live and community-oriented program hours over the past four years. In 2007 the station made a significant expenditure for new equipment to improve the sound quality of live, gavel-to-gavel coverage of Silverton town board meetings. Current plans are to extend live coverage to San Juan County meetings and events in 2008. Streaming audio feeds of the station’s broadcasts have been available on the internet for years. In 2007 the station doubled the number of available feeds and increased bandwidth by 25 percent to improve signal quality and availability through the internet. Silverton Community Radio plans to continue serving our listeners near and far by working towards sustaining the organization into the future. KSJC recently reached agreement with the Town of Silverton to occupy the third floor of the Visitors Center at a low annual cost. Thanks to the generosity of the town we now provide a small and informal “living room” meeting space for local groups and organizations. Equipment and facility improvement projects have been planned for the next few years. A local group of citizen/grant writers have pooled their talents to develop a basic application profile for KSJC that will multiply the impact of your member donations through matching grants. Another goal is to encourage hi-tech jobs and income in the community through projects such as originating radio and other types of programming from Silverton.
