Pirate FM 102 - FM 102.2 - Launceston

The station was launched in 1992 under the name of Pirate FM 102 with the voice of breakfast presenter Roger Day (a well known DJ ... See more from Radio Caroline). The founders of Pirate FM specified digital technology so advanced that it was featured on the BBC technology programme, Tomorrow's World. Many awards have been picked up by the station, its presenters, and journalists. The most notable award is The Sony Radio Academy Award where Pirate FM received the gold award - for station of the year in the 300,000-1,000,000 listener category - in the years 2003 and 2006.Radio targets audiences efficiently because different stations attract different listeners - Kerrang listeners are worlds apart from Classic FM listeners etc. This allows advertisers to talk selectively to the groups they are most interested in. Added to this is radio's regional/local structure, which means that brands can focus their activity very effectively onto key market areas.
