Good News Radio

KPNO first hit the Northeast Nebraska airwaves on September 23rd, 1992. Ron Nealigh was the first station manager. Much prayer and planning had gone into ... See more having a local Christian radio station in Norfolk. Herb Roszhart, who was the President of the Praise Network, founded the station. He was assisted by a local advisory board. ~KPNO set out to maintain a 50/50 balance of music and programming. While we strive to be relevant to all age groups, our main target audience, or demographic, is persons between 30 and 50 years of age. While people move in and out of this age group, we adjust as this segment of society adjusts. For example, Christian music that was labeled “contemporary” in the early 90’s would be deemed “slow” by this age group today. ~Technology has been the biggest change through the years. While KPNO still airs many of the same programs it started with, the method of receiving the programs has changed considerably. Reel to reel tapes have been replaced by high quality digital satellite feeds. The World Wide Web is also frequently used to obtain programs. Cassette tapes are no longer used, and CD use is becoming more infrequent. KPNO’s entire on-air music library is stored on and played from a computer hard drive. ~Gene Henes became the interim station manager in the late 90's. Jon Shipman joined KPNO as manager in 2000 and served until 2006. Brian Gall is currently serving as the station manager. ~In 2003, KPNO increased its broadcasting power to 100,000 watts. This is the maximum allowed by the FCC. ~KPNO continues its mission of building the body of Christ and sharing the Gospel with those who need to hear it. Much thought is put into everything that goes on the air. Our goal is that all programming and music heard on KPNO would be Biblical, relevant, timely, and useful.
