The decision was then made to change KKNX Radio 840 into KKNX Solid Gold Radio 84, a showcase station for the Top 40 music of the 1950's through the 1970's. All analog studio and production equipment was replaced with state of the art digital equipment. The Mono broadcast signal was converted to a Stereo signal, making KKNX Solid Gold Radio 84 the only digital AM stereo radio station in the Eugene/ Springfield market. On July 18, 1996 KKNX Solid Gold Radio 84 started broadcasting the Oldies Top 40 format. Unlike many other oldies stations, KKNX Solid Gold Radio 84 features a full spectrum of oldies from the early R & B influences to the late 70's demise of the Top 40 format. The KKNX Solid Gold Radio 84 Disc Jockeys know the music, they know the era, they know the magic that made Top 40 radio what it was.
