Student Run Radio

TuneFM is now in its 41st year, making it the oldest youth broadcaster in the country! We're based out of the University of New England ... See more in Armidale, New South Wales. Even though we're based out of the university, that doesn't mean that we're strictly a university station. Although we often work in conjunction, and seek to explore and expose some of the fantastic knowledge being culmited within the university, we are a radio station for the whole community (this means you don't have to be a student if you'd like to volunteer). Our programming is aimed at students of all ages, and the community at large. TuneFM endeavours to help bridge the gap between the university and people of Armidale, by showcasing the fantastic talents of both. We are a community station that wants to support the community that supports us. We have a long and littered historyof music, politics and activism - stemming from our radical start back in April 1970. 2UNE was conceptualised through a growing dissatisfaction with the sleepy Liberal Government of the time during the swinging 60s, so the UNE Radio committee fought to obtain a licence to broadcast throughout the campus – with the backing of Sir Zelman Cowan, the then Vice-Chancellor of UNE. They filly won the fight, and put together a studio in the Milton building. Then, on that fateful day – the 27th April 1970, Dick Mutton muttered the words - “Radio UNE, the time is 7 o'clock”.
