The Cat Radio - AM 1251 - Warrington

Welcome to the Cat Radio’s official website! The station ran by students, for students. The Cat is the radio station for the University of Chester ... See more based on the Warrington Campus. It all started about 8 years ago as a simple dream and now it has evolved into what we all know and love today. We are on a 5 year renewable license with Ofcom and we are currently in the third year of a second cycle…so far so good. We are broadcasting at 1 watt on medium wave 1251am as well as streaming mp3 online. The station is funded and run (well, all the paperwork) by the University. It is a key part of the Radio Production course offered at the University of Chester, which is run by none other than the legend that is Mr David Grimshaw! We asked Dave to say a few words for the website, and in true Dave style he said way too much so here are the best bits! “I’ve been running the course for 21 years now (longer than most of his students have been alive!) and I think that having our own station has revolutionised the course as before students would just pretend to broadcast. Student radio has become a significant part of the broadcast industry and it is where they source a lot of new talent. The Cat is a full radio station in microcosm. “ “The Cat is a great station to listen to, a great station to work on and a fantastic place to learn. “ “I have been in radio for 30 years now, admittedly I only started in radio to get in to TV but once I got there I realised I didn’t like it and actually radio was the place to be. It offers you a great freedom to be creative and you are constantly learning new things.”
