t 88.1 on the FM band, with an effective radiated power of 100 watts. WCRX operates 24h hours 7 days a week.
According to FCC regulations, a noncommercial educational broadcast station must advance an educational program. WCRX meets the FCC purposes by serving as a laboratory for radio majors and broadcast journalism-majors to gain practical experience that will benefit them in their careers. It is a place where they can discover both freedom and responsibility in broadcasting.
WCRX must be sensitive to the needs and desires of the community. The station must serve audience needs by providing programming that meets the public interest, convenience and necessity of Cook County. The radio station cannot serve only the whims of a few and must operate in a business-like manner with standard business procedures, professional attitudes and on-air delivery, appropriate language, and standard office and security measures. WCRX-FM receives major financial support from the College and from underwriting announcements, which are solicited from the business community.
The WCRX format is dance and TOP 40 but offers specialized programming which includes sports and news talk, rock, alternative, R&B, hip hop, meringue and 80’s music.
The WCRX primary coverage area includes: downtown Chicago, Near North Side, Near South Side and the far West Side.
