Operating on the campus of Central State University, WCSU is the only minority owned and operated non-commercial, Ohio Public Radio (OPR) station broadcasting in the state. WCSU signed on the air in October of 1962 broadcasting from the second story of the Central State Book Store. The station offered a ... See more a variety of music and information for residents located in the Miami Valley covering a geographic area of 4-5 counties. Some of the major cities located in the WCSU coverage area include Beavercreek, Fairborn, Dayton, Springfield, Xenia, and Wilberforce. In 1974 "The Xenia Tornado" destroyed major parts of Xenia, Wilberforce, and areas on the Central State University campus including the bookstore which housed WCSU. During the period of campus rebuilding following the tornado, the university moved WCSU to the old Cook Building located on the southeast corner of campus; and several years later WCSU qualified to receive Community Service Grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) that assisted in the creation of additional programming and outreach activities. In the fall of 1992 with support from Dr. William "Bill" Cosby, WCSU moved into its current facility, the renovated Cook Building now known as The Camille O. and William H. Cosby Mass Communication Telecommunication Center. Today the station broadcasts 24/7 offering a variety of program and outreach services. Program services include jazz music, news and information, university sporting events, and multicultural programming for audiences in the Dayton metro market. Over the last several years WCSU has won numerous awards including, Ohio eTech awards for educational service, and national Black College Radio Station of the Year. WCSU is licensed to Central State University located in Wilberforce, Ohio. Central State University is a Historic Black University founded in 1887.

I was listening earlier today in my car and your DJ commented that Liz Wright's "Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly" is found on a hard to find cd. I don't remember what he called it, but in case no one has already corrected him, it is also found on Liz's "Salt" cd.
