Cincinnati's oldest and largest public radio station owes its existence to local classical music enthusiasts Daniel J. Ransohoff , Addison Lanier and Bruce Petrie Sr., who recognized the limited listening options of the area's classical music fans and spearheaded the effort to bring a fine arts and public affairs radio station to the tri-state. WGUC has been a leader in the public radio system throughout its history. In 2003, WGUC was the first public radio station in Ohio to broadcast an HD Radio™ signal and now broadcasts classical music on WGUC HD1 and jazz on WGUC HD2. And in 2006 WGUC became the first station in America to broadcast in Surround Sound. The future is now upon us.
