KPSP Local 2, KSPS-CD is a full service television station in Cathedral City, California broadcasting on local digital UHF channel 38 and serving the Coachella Valley in the Palm Springs area. For branding purposes, the station kept the analog channel 2 in its name. It is an affiliate of CBS
(Columbia Broadcasting Systems). Before using its current call sign, the station was known as KVCC-LP from 1997 to 1998 and KDPX-LP from 1998 to 1999. KPSP-LP signed on with CBS programming on September 2, 2002. When KPSP went on the air, the Coachella Valley area cable companies displaced KCBS-TV (at KCBS's request), and KPSP adopted the "CBS 2" moniker, following the practice of major local competitors in using its cable designation for branding purposes. KPSP is a media partner of The Desert Sun, the major local daily newspaper. Rich Fields, KPSP's former Chief Meteorologist (August 2002 to April 2004), went on to become the announcer on the CBS game show, "The Price is Right" from April 4, 2004 until July 2010. He is currently a part-time meteorologist for KCBS-TV and KCAL-TV in Los Angeles.
