WCVE-TV is a full service television station in Richmond, Virginia, broadcasting on local digital channel 42 and virtual channel 23. Founded in 1964, it is owned by by Commonwealth Public Broadcasting Corporation. It is a member station of PBS (Public Broadcasting Service.) WCVE was the first educational television station in
the United States South, then affiliated with NET (National Education Television.) As of 2011, WCVE broadcasts to 44 school districts. With sister stations WCVW and WHTJ, the network is known as "Community Idea Stations." In addition to the PBS programming, WCVE produces and broadcasts local programming, such as "Virginia Currents," profiling Virginia state residents.
