WOPX-TV is a full service television station in Melbourne, Florida , broadcasting on local digital UHF channel 48 and virtual channel 48. Founded in 1986 as WAYK, it is owned by Ion Media Networks, Inc.. It is an affiliate of ION, featuring a broad mix of popular television series, theatrical ... See more and made-for-television movies, specials and sports. WOPX's channel has three subchannels, all with ION programming. On 48.1 is ION's basic programming; On 48.2 is qubo, ION's children's television specialty channel, broadcasting in English and Spanish, and on 48.3 is ION Life, airing lifestyle programming during the day, and movies in the evening. The station was independent from 1986 until 1998, offering general entertainment. In 1998, it first became affiliated with inTV and then PAX TV and i network, before they changed to Ion Television. The station previously used the call signs WAYK from 1985 until 1992 and WIRB from 1992 until 1998.
