Sebastian Inlet Eagle Riders to Hold Diabetes Research Poker Run Event May 19 Proceeds to benefit The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center May 9, 2012 Sebastian, F see more... la. – The Eagle Riders of Sebastian Inlet Fraternal Order of Eagles #4067 invite the public to hit the pavement for a good cause Saturday, May 19 at 9:30 a.m. for their Strokes & Spokes Poker Run to benefit The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center. The ride features three different starting locations with registration opening at 9:30 a.m. and the first groups leaving each location at 10:30 a.m. The North start will be held at American Legion Riders Post 81, 2909 S. Harbor City Blvd. in Melbourne. The middle starting location will be the Sebastian Inlet Eagles Aerie, located at 9606 Trade Center Dr. in Sebastian. The South start will be at the Yellowtail Grill & Raw Bar, 101 N. 2nd St. in Ft. Pierce. Cost to participate is $10 per-hand with prizes issued to the best and worst hands. All rides will end at the Sebastian Inlet Aerie for a celebration including live music, vendors, food and drinks. The Eagles will raffle off several big items, hold a live auction, and sell tickets for a 50/50 raffle. The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center will be housed at the John and Mary Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building on the campus of The University of Iowa in Iowa City. The state-of-the-art center will host leaders in the field of diabetes research in an effort to find a cure for the disease. The F.O.E. has pledged to donate $25 million over a five-year period to fund research efforts. To date, the Eagles has given $15 million to the university to help bring an end to diabetes. The Sebastian Inlet Eagles has maintained a presence in the community since 1983 and currently hosts nearly 700 Aerie and Auxiliary members. For information contact Susan Pettit at 772-473-8538.
