Catholic Radio Indy - WSPM Info

Our Mission Catholic Radio Indy 89.1 FM (WSPM) is a not-for-profit organization, established to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people in Central Indiana. In concert with the EWTN Global Catholic Network, our goal is to broadcast the beauty and teachings of the Catholic Faith and to inform, ... See more inspire and challenge listeners so that all who hear it may be brought into the Kingdom of God. To achieve this mission, our programming is designed to communicate divine truth, foster charity, defend peace and spread joy. It is our intention to cultivate and nurture among all people the salvation which is available only through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Go ye, therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and of the Holy Ghost. Matt 28:v19 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations. Matt. 24: v14 Background In 2001, CRI founder Bob Teipen was fully absorbed in his accounting business, his church family and his wife Sharon, their children and grandchildren. And then he attended a retreat that was to change his life. During the retreat, Bob felt a strong call to bring Catholic radio to the State of Indiana. Catholic radio programming existed in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Illinois, but Indiana lacked a station. Many requests had been made of EWTN to make its radio programs available in Indiana. Bob knew nothing about this or the communications field in general, but over the next five years he learned about the industry, met with Indiana radio station owners, and began to build a group of interested Catholics who joined him in making this dream a reality. Bob’s drive and a lot of hard work brought brought this calling to fruition in February, 2004. WSPM 89.1 FM now broadcasts Catholic Radio to Central Indiana through its affiliation with the EWTN and its radio satellite feed. The richness of the programs is attractive to listeners as they travel to and from work, school and play. Evening call-in programs are popular with all age groups as are the weekend sing along, news and evangelical offerings. Educational, informative and enriching, these programs attract a span of demographics not attracted to commercial stations. Loyal, interested and supportive listeners of Catholic Radio in general are a more receptive audience. Is This Funded By the Church? No. Inter Mirifica, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed to manage the station, and inspired by the Vatican II document on modern communication by the same name. It is composed of a group of dedicated Catholic volunteers, with families and full-time jobs. The cost of leasing the station, equipment, programming, and personnel is significant. But, Inter Mirifica seeks only the funding support it can develop from its listeners and underwriters in the community.
