Hanszen and his wife, Wanda, purchased KGAS RADIO and in July 1991, acquired FCC authorization to construct a new FM broadcast station. Updated equipment and new promotions have increased the quality of the station and broadened the listening audience extensively. KGAS 104.3 FM plays U S Country and 1590 AM plays Solid Gospel. KGAS is strongly news oriented with local and area news five times daily in addition to ABC Entertainment Network and Texas State Network News. Also included are Paul Harvey, Soundboard News, Weather and Obituaries. Other popular programs are Panola Pride, Swap Shop, Jack Dillard's Farm Program, Bev Brown's Talking It Over and Morning Devotionals. KGAS Radio broadcasts play-by-play coverage of Texas Rangers baseball, Dallas Cowboys football, Southwest Conference football, Panola College baseball and basketball, Carthage High School football, basketball and baseball, and other area high schools including Beckville, Elysian Fields, Gary, Tatum, Tenaha, Timpson and Joaquin. KGAS is one of a few stations in the United States that uses what is called 'split signal'. Local football is split with Carthage on the right speaker or channel and East Texas Game of the Week on the left speaker or channel of the stereo. KGAS Radio is a marvelous, mature, magical and magnificent mix of music, news, views and sports for the entire East Texas and Northwest Louisiana area.
