The meetings are held the second Wednesday of every month at the Del Webb Wellness Center Conference room from 1:00-2:30 p.m. Fibromyalgia affects the muscles and soft tissue. Its symptoms include chronic pain in the muscles, fatigue, sleep problems, and painful tender points or trigger points at certain parts of the body. Fibromyalgia pain and other symptoms can be relieved through medications, lifestyle changes, stress management, and other fibromyalgia treatment. For more information about this support group, please contact Ruth Holstead at 928-692-4600. The second program is a new Parkinson’s Pro-Active Support Group. The next meeting will be held on January 18th at the Neal Conference on the 2nd floor of the medical professional building at 1 p.m. Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of certain nerve cells in the brain that normally produce a chemical called dopamine, which helps the brain direct and control movement. In Parkinson’s disease, these dopamine-producing nerve cells break down, causing dopamine levels to drop and affecting the brain signals that direct movement. The classic symptoms of Parkinson’s disease are shaking, stiff muscles, and slow movement. Meeting topics will include swallowing, speech, balance, fall prevention, nutrition and guest speakers.
