WEKC was started in September 1981 at 250 watts by Monty McNalley where the format was contemporary. At that time, a program was started called ... See more "It's Your Time" which was a trade show where individuals could call in and buy, sell or trade. In 1983 the station was upgraded to 1000 watts, then to 4200 watts in 1987 where the format changed to country. The station was rated #1 from 1990 through 1992. In 1993 the station was sold to Trio Broadcasting and was combined with an FM station, however, the station began to go downhill. In July 2000, Rev. Gerald G. Parks bought the station and changed the management and revised the format to southern and bluegrass gospel. The station is again rated #1 in the singing news in the Southeastern area. The trade show is still on the air and going strong. It is now called "Tri-County Spotlight" with up to 100 or more calls per show. The owners are Gerald and Helen Parks. The Lord has really blessed WEKC since we have taken over and we very happy about how the ratings have increased! The public has been really great in helping us do the Lord's will and we hope to keep playing the best in southern and bluegrass gospel. If we can play something that can help you or be a blessing to you or any of our listeners, we have accomplished what we set out to do.
