Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network

Here at the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, we strive to be your best source for news, entertainment and education. In 2010, “source” meant many things. ... See more It meant the start of CPTV4U, our newest channel created with one purpose in mind: to give our viewers more of the shows they have been requesting, including more international news, more mystery and drama and, generally, more of the quality programs audiences have come to expect from CPTV. It meant the overhaul of Hoop Streams, our online coverage of UConn Women’s Basketball, now faster—with enhanced picture and quality sound—than ever before. It meant taking an active part in the local community, whether it was through our First Annual Craft Beer and Chili Challenge, or the Connecticut Treasure Hunt, or via a watershed partnership with Hartford Public Schools that will actively involve high school students in our studios. Now, in 2011, we have another opportunity to provide our members with a new year of the best content in public broadcasting. Starting this month, NOVA presents “Making Stuff,” a four-part series that investigates the stronger, smarter, cleaner materials that will shape our future. Also, Frontline covers the anniversaries of two significant events shaping our world: in “The Battle for Haiti,” Haiti’s recovery from the January 2010 catastrophic earthquake is examined, amid an uphill fight to rebuild the country in the face of deep-rooted corruption and gang intimidation; and in “Are We Safer,” reporter Dana Priest investigates terrorism responses that have evolved in the wake of 9/11, including the growing reach of homeland security and data-collecting into the lives of ordinary Americans. On a lighter note, 2011 marks the 15th season of Antiques Roadshow. Be prepared for more memorable tales of cherished heirlooms and yard-sale bargains, as the country’s leading specialists offer appraisals of antiques and collectibles. As we embark on a new year, despite these changing times, our commitment to bettering individuals and communities through our programming will not waiver. This pledge is made possible by the equal and astounding commitment of our members. Thank you for your support over these many years; we would not be the network we are now without you.
