WSON 860 AM is one of Kentucky’s oldest radio stations. We were founded by the late Hecht S. Lackey, Sr. on Dec. 17th, 1941, ten days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In fact, we were the first radio station to apply for a directional pattern so that we could stay on 24/7. WSON is the only commercially licensed radio station in Henderson County and operates on 500 watts day and night. We continue to adhere to the high standards of broadcasting established by our founder and his son Henry G. Lackey. This past September the FCC approved the sale of WSON to Ed Henson of Henson Media. WSON takes its call letters from the last three letters of our city of license, Henderson. Our station motto is We Serve Our Neighbors and we call ourselves “The Hometeam” since we work together to offer the best in local news, weather and sports.
