WXPL sponsors events, brings in local musicians, and most importantly provides everyone with the opportunity to speak out and be heard, so make sure to tune in for a variety of radio shows while we keep the music scene active on campus. WXPL 91.3 FM is Fitchburg State University’s own radio station poised to provide students, faculty, and the community with musical entertainment and information. We pride ourselves on fueling the music scene on campus with a variety of radio programming, live musical concerts, and events. Our station relies on close to one-hundred student volunteer members, in charge of the various radio shows and events scheduled every day. The station was assigned the WXPL call letters by the Federal Communications Commission on September 26, 1984 and originally broadcasted from the top floor of the University’s library. Eventually the station was expanded and relocated to a larger space. WXPL is currently located in the basement level of Thompson Hall, on the far end of the college quadrangle. This location is home to our studio, office, and green room. The door is always open during normal buisness hours, so make sure to stop by and check in. We are open from 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and until 4pm on Thursdays. We welcome all students and encourage them all to be trained and host a radio program. Variety is the key, and we currently broadcast everything from talk to indie. We highlight local and upcoming artists every day of the week with our subsrciptions to a huge variety of record labels. We even host a weekly radio program dubbed “Open Airwaves” featuring local artists performing live on air from our studio.
