The Cream Team
Derek “Dog” Grimme
Derek has been passionately inspired by music for most of his life. From listening to his parents’ Beach Boys and Johnny Cash records to discovering Led Zeppelin to his first concert, Paul McCartney, to randomly winding up in the front row at Billy Joel/Elton John (1994) the wide river of musical enjoyment and appreciation runs deep. Include The Offspring, David Lee Roth, The Eagles, Veruca Salt and Pink Floyd and his live concert experiences are only slightly detailed prior to turning 18 years old.
Derek’s IT talent is what keeps all things Creamy Radio online and streaming. A founding partner, Derek is always reviewing new music, seeking new bands, learning about music in addition to handling the operations of Creamy Radio as Managing Partner of the station.
Known as Dog to most, from the beginning Derek has brought his own character to the operations and musical statement that is Creamy Radio. The moniker dates to High School and he to this day will never divulge the origins, stating only “there are less than ten people in the world who know.” He can be found at many local music venues and concerts, hiking in the woods and spending time with his dog. If you see him out be sure to recognize him, he likes that.
David “DboG” Gould
David is a founding partner of Creamy Radio and lifelong lover of music. A musician himself, David wanted to help create an avenue where artists who didn’t get wide attention could share their great music alongside the best the mainstream had to offer.
The first stadium show he attended was Extreme, Cinderella and David Lee Roth at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA, 1991. While he makes no apologies (Extreme rules), his tastes have broadened since then. Hailing from the Boston area, he grew up having snuck into many a great show at the Middle East, Rathskeller and other great local haunts.
David works as a web designer by trade, and among other things is responsible for Creamy Radio’s website and branding.
Christopher “Captain” Emge
Christopher J. Emge known as “The Captain” started with Creamy Radio just over five years ago. Currently, he is the Director of Artist Relations for the station, where he is the point person for all label and PR related contact. You can frequently read his unusual writing stylings during his various concert and festival reviews, not to mention an occasion “Odds’n’Sodds” musing.
The Captain’s taste encapsulates the spirit of Creamy Radio with a varied palate of favorites. The diversity has brought jamband luminaries into rotation such as Railroad Earth, Tea Leaf Green, and Mofro. While on the other end of the spectrum his love of big sounding Brian Wilson/Wall of Sound style pop can be heard in such indie darlings as Fleet Foxes and Death Cab for Cutie, not to mention lesser-known but equally compelling artists like What Laura Says and St. Louis’ own Grace Basement. His favorite band remains the alt-country sound of the Jayhawks where Creamy Radio currently plays cuts from every released album in their canon. Combined with the band’s solo and offshoot projects the station spins over 125 tracks in their playlist.
On a personal level, The Captain has been riding on an endless carousel of just becoming single or just starting to date someone. While his luck with the better gender has been mixed, he remains committed to the ideals of social justice, long noodle-ridden guitar solos, and weekend benders better left forgotten. Originally from Indiana, the Captain stays true to his roots by drinking lite domestic lagers, weekly trips to the bowling alley and a dedication to his Fantasy NBA League.
Pete “PezMonkey” Hinrichs
Pete was born to a musically gifted mother and a tone-deaf father. He ended up somewhere in between in the talent department, but this never hampered his enthusiasm for music, good or otherwise. Since attending his first live rock show, a band called Poop, in Stillwater, MN his tastes have been defined by many as “Wanking”. Example: the first cassette tape he purchased was Bell Biv Devoe’s seminal 1990 release ‘Poison’. Do the math.
Although initially labeled a musical casualty, his tastes were expanded and improved by the explosion of the Grunge scene in the early ’90’s. Bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana crowd surfed their way into his heart and mind and would do irreversible damage to the pop-loving d-bag that resided within. Soon a rock foothold developed and Metallica, Slayer and Tool managed to crawl from the primordial ooze of his sullen teenage subconscious to the forefront of his musical tastes. Youthful angst combined with power chords and a taste for inebriation to form what is referred to now as the ‘Hesher’ phase.
Eventually age and jam-rock came together to provide new and unique sense of musical sensibilities that led to a unique alchemy of musical tastes, making him a slam dunk as the Northwest Regional Artist Relations Rep at Creamy Radio. He currently lives in Seattle, WA and spends most of his free time fighting off Seasonal Affective Disorder.
