JPR News & Information - KSJK - AM 1230 - Talent, OR

Jefferson Public Radio's flagship station, KSOR, was established in 1969 on the campus of Southern Oregon University (SOU) in Ashland, Oregon. From a tiny 10-watt ... See more student run station, KSOR evolved to become a regional public radio service reaching over 1 million potential listeners in a 60,000-square-mile area of Southern Oregon and Northern California via the largest translator network in public radio. As KSOR has grown, it has developed a network of satellite radio stations and now goes by the name Jefferson Public Radio (JPR), making reference to the mythical State of Jefferson, which roughly corresponds to the listening area served by JPR. JPR is owned and operated by Southern Oregon University and extends the University's regional educational mission by promoting lifelong learning and fostering the development of the human creative and intellectual spirit in the region. JPR broadcasts radio programming that is not available via commercial media. This programming seeks to achieve the following objectives: * Enhance the quality of community dialogue about regional, state, national and international civic issues by presenting in-depth news and public affairs programming. * Make available music that otherwise would not be available on the radio. JPR is the primary source of classical music, jazz, world music, folk and blues in the region it serves. * Provide cultural programming that celebrates the human experience. Programs like A Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk and This American Life reflect the American experience in a way that is valuable to our culture. In 1975 the KSOR Listeners' Guild was formed as a component of what was then known as the Southern Oregon College Foundation. In 1997 the Guild established its own non-profit organization which is now called the JPR Foundation. The JPR Foundation supports the public service objectives of JPR and enjoys tax-exempt status under IRS Section 501(c)(3). The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors who oversee its activities. Contributors of $45 or more per year to the JPR Foundation make up the JPR Listeners' Guild, which is a registered name of the JPR Foundation. JPR is a member of National Public Radio, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Consortium for Public Radio in Oregon, Western States Public Radio, and is an affiliate of Public Radio International. ------ Shows: A Prairie Home Companion, Fresh Air (NPR), Here and Now (WBUR), On the Media, People's Pharmacy, Selected Shorts, Talk of the Nation, Talk of the Nation Science Friday, The Diane Rehm Show, This American Life, Whad'ya Know, As It Happens, From Our Own Correspondent (R4 Edition), Global Business, One Planet, The Strand, Vinyl Cafe, Weekend Connection, Assignment, BBC Business Daily, BBC World Business News, BBC World News, Business Weekly, Charlie Gillett's World of Music, Heart and Soul, On Point, Politics UK, Science in Action, The Instant Guide, The Interview, The World Today, To the Best of our Knowledge, World Briefing, World Update, Zorba Paster On Your Health, Analysis (BBC WS), BBC Newshour, Sportsworld, The World, Marketplace Money, To The Point, The Parents Journal, Tech Nation, Studio 360, West Coast Live, The Jefferson Exchange ----- Hosts: Robin Young, Dorothy Hickson, Carlos Rosado, Richard Knox, Terry Graedon, Joe Graedon, Isaiah Sheffer, Neal Conan, Ira Flatow, Annette Heist, Charles Bergquist, Diane Rehm, Ira Glass, Jessica Hopper, Alex Blumberg, Michael Feldman, Tom Ashbrook, Jim Fleming, Steve Paulson, Anne Strainchamps, Dan Damon, Ahmed Omed Khpulwak, Jamie C Here, Zorba Paster, Tom Clark, Lisa Mullins, Marco Werman, Tess Vigeland, Warren Olney, Bobbi Conner, Moira Gunn, David Ewing Duncan, Kurt Andersen, Sedge Thomson
