JPR Rhythm & News - KNCA - FM 89.7 - Burney, CA

History & Mission Jefferson Public Radio's flagship station, KSOR, was established in 1969 on the campus of Southern Oregon University (SOU) in Ashland, Oregon. From ... See more m a tiny 10-watt student run station, KSOR evolved to become a regional public radio service reaching over 1 million potential listeners in a 60,000-square-mile area of Southern Oregon and Northern California via the largest translator network in public radio. As KSOR has grown, it has developed a network of satellite radio stations and now goes by the name Jefferson Public Radio (JPR), making reference to the mythical State of Jefferson, which roughly corresponds to the listening area served by JPR. JPR is owned and operated by Southern Oregon University and extends the University's regional educational mission by promoting lifelong learning and fostering the development of the human creative and intellectual spirit in the region. JPR broadcasts radio programming that is not available via commercial media. This programming seeks to achieve the following objectives: Enhance the quality of community dialogue about regional, state, national and international civic issues by presenting in-depth news and public affairs programming. Make available music that otherwise would not be available on the radio. JPR is the primary source of classical music, jazz, world music, folk and blues in the region it serves. Provide cultural programming that celebrates the human experience. Programs like A Prairie Home Companion, Car Talk and This American Life reflect the American experience in a way that is valuable to our culture. In 1975 the KSOR Listeners' Guild was formed as a component of what was then known as the Southern Oregon College Foundation. In 1997 the Guild established its own non-profit organization which is now called the JPR Foundation. The JPR Foundation supports the public service objectives of JPR and enjoys tax-exempt status under IRS Section 501(c)(3). The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors who oversee its activities. Contributors of $45 or more per year to the JPR Foundation make up the JPR Listeners' Guild, which is a registered name of the JPR Foundation. JPR is a member of National Public Radio, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Consortium for Public Radio in Oregon, Western States Public Radio, and is an affiliate of Public Radio International. ------ Shows: All Things Considered, Car Talk (NPR), Fresh Air (NPR), Hearts of Space, Jazz with Bob Parlocha, Living on Earth, NPR's Morning Edition, Piano Jazz, The Thistle & Shamrock, Weekend All Things Considered, Weekend Edition Saturday, Weekend Edition Sunday, Grateful Dead Hour, Echoes, Le Show, World Cafe, New Dimensions, Etown, Afropop Worldwide, West Coast Live, American Rhythm, Blues Show (JPR), Folk Show (JPR), Jazz Sunday, Open Air (JPR), Retro Lounge, Rollin' the Blues, World Beat Show ----- Hosts: Michele Norris, Robert Siegel, Melissa Block, Tom Magliozzi, Ray Magliozzi, Bob Parlocha, Steve Curwood, Bobby Bascomb, Eileen Bolinsky, Renee Montagne, Steve Inskeep, Guy Raz, Scott Simon, Audie Cornish, David Gans, John Diliberto, Harry Shearer, Dennis Coffey, Lloyd Cole, Steve Miller, Nick Forster, Helen Forster, Sedge Thomson, Cindy Degrof, Paul Gerardi, Cheri Huber, Rick Larson
