mall but ever widening group of Christians. Representing a wide variety of denominational backgrounds, this group was knit together by a common desire for 24-hour Christian radio.
With the radio station license provided by Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting, the Lord brought together in the MICB staff and volunteer steering committee the prayer, energies, finances and leadership that assisted in the on-air birth of KJYL in February 1994. Serving the many communities of North Central Iowa, the KJYL broadcast studios are located in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Occupying a modest building, the studios are equipped with the latest broadcasting technologies to assure the finest possible programming and technical quality for the most important message of all ... the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Though the ministry certainly possesses technical professionalism and impact, the ministry of KJYL resides in its message. Over 125,000 people are now able to receive Christian radio with its teaching, encouragement, challenge and comfort 24 hours a day.
KJYL represents a truly interdenominational work. The current KJYL staff and Board of Directors reflect Methodist, Lutheran, Baptist, Evangelical Free, Independent and Covenant backgrounds. Yet, with all this diversity, there is one common denominator; the necessity for all people to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Everyone involved in the KJYL ministry is committed to evangelism. All believe that Jesus Christ is the only Name given by which men can be saved and that all people are in need of salvation. Yet, harsh, sour, exclusive or critical attitudes towards denominations are not a part of our presentation.
The vision and direction of the ministry in guided by the Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting Board of Directors. In their unpaid positions, these members of the Board of Directors seek first the will of God and needs of people in establishing policy and direction for the ministry of KJYL.
While KJYL is not affiliated with any denomination or church, all of the staff and board members are involved in their own local church bodies. Standing alongside the Church, the goal of KJYL is to present the ministry of the Word of God through teaching programs and Christian music, knowing that as we encourage people to spend time in His Word it is the Holy Spirit who will "lead into all truth".
KJYL is a "Listener Supported" ministry. Approximately 85% of the money needed for the ongoing ministry is received through the free will giving of the listening family. Of course, as a legally recognized non-profit organization, all gifts to the KJYL ministry are fully tax deductible.
Inherent in the philosophy of the KJYL broadcasting ministry is a desire to be a total radio station. In addition to inspirational music and Christian teaching programs, KJYL offers all of the news, weather, sports and farm market information that people desire and need to know. For that reason KJYL maintains a fully equipped news department and specializes in news that would interest and affect the Christian community.
A watchword for the KJYL ministry has been excellence in broadcasting. The goal as a staff is to present professional programming with well-trained, dedicated radio professionals who are specifically called and gifted for the position of Christian ministry.
It is our hope, prayer and expectation that KJYL and Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting will continue to grow into other areas of Christian service designed to bring more people into a saving and abundant relationship with Jesus Christ.
