We are KPIT Radio, 91.7 FM, We are known as "La Campeona", which translated into English means "The Champion". We are licensed for Pittsburg, Texas. ... See more We serve four surrounding counties. First of all, I want to introduce myself. My name is Juan M. Cantu. My wife's name is LindaCantu. We are both native Texans. I was Born in Robstown, Texas. My wife was born in McKinney, Texas. I graduated from Frisco High School, in Frisco, Texas, in 1967. I was the first Hispanic to ever graduate out of that High School. I have always felt that most of the problems that we as individuals face in life, are problems that, if we are prepared with the right education, training, and information, that we can solve them for ourselves, or at least know where to go to get the right help. While still in high school, I was aware that most of the Hispanics around my age, had already dropped out of school, and holding jobs. A lot of it was tradition. A lot of us were expected to quit school, and work to help the family out. Well I always figured on marrying and having a family, and that I owed my future family, all the best that I could give them, and that I had to prepare myself the best I could, in order to accomplish that. Well I stayed in school, and graduated. I married that same year, but a few years later I attended Draughon's Business College, in Dallas, Texas. I attended for one year. I attended in the evenings, after my regular job. I have this burning desire to communicate to people, that there are a lot of things, and negative situations, that we don't have to accept. It is within our ability to do something to remedy a lot of our needs. A lot of these situations require for the people to obtain the proper information, for their particular needs. A lot of the needs are pretty common among peoples and cultures. In order for every citizen to fulfill their destiny, and be the very best and most productive citizens possible, it is required that the people be armed with the very best information, and education. We here at KPIT 91.7, La Campeona, being a radio station that broadcasts in Spanish, are fully aware and conscious, of the needs in our Hispanic community. These are needs that if met, will empower the Hispanic community, and as a consequence of that, we will all be a lot better off for it. They will not only be a better workforce, compete and qualify for the jobs of the future, be more prosperous, and thereby well able to take care of their personal lives, and provide good care for their families. Better jobs, and prosperity will always be within the reach of the people that are prepared, and informed. The community will also greatly benefit when this happens, as you will have less people needing assistance, and more people with better jobs, more in compliance with everything, and paying taxes. As always, prospering communities have less crime. Therein comes the burden that I have, for doing all I possibly can to help make much of this happen. Therefore when the opportunity presented itself to purchase this non-commercial radio station, I received this as a calling to put my thoughts, and desires into action for the common good of the people. We are also incorporated as a non-profit corporation. My wife Linda and I, are not motivated by money. Our desire to help people is genuine, and if we do plenty of that, and the people support us, then we will be fulfilling our mission, that I stronly believe we were called to do. And yes, I do believe that the calling is from God. We do recognize though that everything costs money. We feel that if we do our job right, and in turn the people, and the community support us, then I know that we will have a tremendous impact for the good of the communities that we serve. I can look at this matter with my spiritual eyes, and envision a situation where we have the facilites, centrally located among our listeners, that will house our radio station, but also the space for the people to congregate to debate and discuss matters concerning our communities. These will be available to all groups in the communities that we serve. Through our station, we will have for the listeners, a venue for not only informing them about a lot of matters that affect them, but also where the help lies. Where to turn to, according to their needs. We will also air any situations involving dangers, scams, fraud, or otherwise. We want to take the best care of the people that we possibly can, and will always participate in every situation where our help will matter. I envision us having a building and property that will house the radio station, including our antenna. I'm hoping for the building to have rooms or offices, so that we can have, on a regular basis, classes to teach English to the non-English speaking Hispanics that are amongst us. I strongly believe that we have the people to help us do that already residing in our community. A lot of this, we hope to accomplish through certified, and qualified volunteers. If we have to pay something, then I know that it will still be a good investment, helping people to help themselves.I envision us to have in our building, space to teach basic computer skills, to all those desiring to learn regardless of age, or ethnicity. These would be regular ongoing classes. We will offer music lessons, radio broadcasting internships, and will consider anysuggestions that will impact our communities in positive ways. I envision us also to have in our building, space for a food pantry. We will seek food donations from the community, and make them available to the needy amongst us, regardless of race. There would be no harsh interrogations of anybody in order to receive the food aid. That is a form of humiliation and will only discourage the people we are trying to help, from reaching out to us for help. I envision us to have also in our building, space to invite speakers, to hold seminars, show films and produce plays that will teach them important information, that every citizen should know. We will invite knowlegeable, and capable business people for lectures, so as to encourage entrepenurship, and to help form groups, and organize in the best possible way, so as to have the most positive results. I envision us to utilize the power of our airwaves, here at KPIT, to help move everything that I have outlined, forward. We can't do all this by ourselves, and will require the good people in our area to help us, and support us. Some can help with underwriting our programming, and in turn get exposure for your business. Some can donate their time to teach a class. Some can donate goods or services to the needy amongst us. Some can make a tax deductible donation. We promise to be the best caretakers of every phase of this endeavor. Please help us to help ourselv
