Communication (Secom). The studios are located in the center of São Luís.
Initially known as Rádio Difusora, it was founded during the Getúlio Vargas government and came about at the request of interventor Paulo Martins de Sousa Ramos. With the support of the federal authorities, the official radio station was granted the prefix PRJ-9, which occupied the medium wave (amplitude modulated), and was tuned to 1940 KHz. PRJ-9 went on the air at 9 p.m. with a speech by interventor Paulo Ramos, which was heard in more than 60 municipalities in the state.
In 1944, Diários Associados signed a loan agreement with the state government and renamed the station. The justification for this change was that all the stations belonging to the chain of associates, radios, newspapers and TV, such as: Tupi, Tamoio, Baré, Timbira, Tabajara etc., were named after indigenous groups who had historically inhabited the regions where the stations were located. From then on, PRJ-9 was called Rádio Timbira, due to the indigenous peoples who inhabited the state.
Over more than eight decades, great radio professionals from Maranhão have worked at Timbira.
