in underground rock and hip-hop. Throughout the week one can catch blocks of polka, spanish, blues, jazz, folk, and anything in between. Our audience consists of both college students and the community at large, however programming on WCVF is more geared towards the community. WCVF also reports to the College Music Journal weekly, and devotes one hour each weekday to strictly new music which includinga Top 10 countdown on Monday afternoons. National headlines (powered by CNN News-Source) and local news is broadcast on WCVF at the top of the hour coupled with weather reports at the bottom. WCVF is also happy to cover Blue Devil Sports such as Hockey as well as other local sports games. On top of dozens of completely student created and produced shows, WCVF is proud to carry syndicated pre-produced programs that co-inside with the block format hours such as Folksinger Michael Jonathon’s Woodsongs Radio Hour and Folkscene on Tuesday mornings; the Putumayo World Music Hour on Wednesday; Hearts of Space Thursday; and Anything Goes with Lise Avery Informational segments such as Earth and Sky and The LohDown on Science can be heard throughout the week. Tuesday night also plays host to the critically acclaimed special interest programs War News Radio and What the Media Doesn’t Tell You. WCVF is also well known for broadcasting National Public Radio (NPR) two times daily, Monday – Friday: Morning Edition (7-9am), and All Things Considered (4-6pm). These broadcasts are graciously achieved through a partnership agreement with NPR member station WQLN in Erie Pennsylvania. High Noon Friday is Western New York’s one and only variety radio show and can also be heard live Friday’s as well as re-run on Saturdays. WCVF is a traditional public station and therefore holds a non-commercial broadcast. Thus we cannot sell airtime for commercial use. However WCVF can sell advertising in the form of underwriting or sponsorship. In underwriting, WCVF can only provide information such as locations, contact phone numbers, website addresses, hours of operation, etc…yet cannot show preference to product nor list an advertised price. WCVF’s FCC license is held by the State University of New York Board of Trustees and was recently renewed in 2006. Professor Greg Snow has been designated as the Chief Operator of WCVF FM.
