KACH has gone through a long and interesting history as the radio voice of Franklin County. Over the years several different owners and managers have guided KACH through good times and bad. A number of radio personalities who have gone on to impressive careers in broadcasting got their start in Preston, Idaho at KACH. From time to time some of those people stop by to share memories and to see what has happened to the small town station that gave them their start in broadcasting.
In April of 1998 The Alan White Family bought KACH Radio and began the transition to owning and managing the station. Alan grew up in small market radio. He began working at KVEL Radio in Vernal, Utah while he was in high school and developed a love for the business. Over the years he worked in several different markets, specializing in news and sports reporting. After graduating from Idaho State University he left radio and worked for ten years in the public relations field doing media relations, community relations, and video production work. When the opportunity presented itself to purchase and operate a station of his own, Alan realized that small town radio was still in his blood, and the White family began a new adventure in a town they had previously only visited.
While many AM Stations are being "gobbled up" by large corporations, Alan White is committed to serving Franklin County in ways that a corporate run station would not. High School Sports is very important to listeners in Franklin County so KACH makes an effort to broadcast as many of the football, basketball, and baseball games for the two high schools--Preston High School and West Side High School-- in the county as is possible. Local news, farm news, a Cache Valley calendar, and a public affairs program--Let's Talk--are heard regularly on KACH.
KACH 1340 AM is an affiliate of the ABC Radio Networks for hourly news reports, morning and afternoon sports reports, and several special features. Citidel Media, owner of the ABC networks, also provides our music format, giving us a professional on air staff with a great selection of "Today's Hits and Yesterday's Favorites." Not only do you hear the latest hits from Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Daughtry, and Plain White T's, you also hear great favorites from Elton John, the Eagles, ABBA, and more. We think it's Cache Valley's best music mix and we invite you to give it a listen.
Much has changed in the radio business since Alan White first went on the air in 1966. 45 rpm records, reel to reel tapes, and continuous loop tape cartridges have all gone to museums. 24 hour satellite-delivered music formats and computerized automation systems allow small market stations like KACH to continue to operate without the need for much of the overhead cost associated with broadcasting operations in past years.
As a locally-owned and operated business, KACH is dedicated to serving the needs of our listeners. The people who make the decisions are right here in Preston. Our door is always open and we are available to hear your concerns. With the support of local businesses who advertise with KACH, it is our goal to remain solvent and to continue to provide a high level of professional service to the people of Cache Valley.
