KJCY Translators

KJCY 95.5 FM is a 6,000-watt station and 24-hour radio ministry that caps an effort that began in 1995 with a group of Mitchell County ... See more residents who had joined together with KJLY in an effort to bring Christian radio to the Mitchell County area. After many frustrated attempts in trying to establish a “translator” (repeater) station for the St. Ansgar-Osage area, a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) freeze on translator applications caused the original committee to set aside the plan for such a Christian radio ministry. Though disappointed, the committee and KJLY never stopped praying that the Lord would someday “open a door” for such a ministry. Those prayers were answered in August 2000 when KJLY received a phone call from an individual who had a permit from the FCC to build and operate a full power station in St. Ansgar. As this man’s plans had changed and he no longer wanted to build the station and put it on the air, he called KJLY to ask if they would want to purchase the permit. KJLY and its parent non-profit ministry of Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting, Inc. (MICB) prayerfully and thoughtfully said “yes” only to have the whole process beset with delays and problems over the next five months. Eventually, the delays and problems were dealt with and on April 30, 2001, the FCC notified KJLY that they had been approved for this 6,000-watt FM permit to serve St. Ansgar, Osage, Mason City, Clear Lake, Austin, Albert Lea and the surrounding area with a full power Christian radio ministry. KJCY’s first day of official broadcasting was September 13, 2001, two days after the 9-11 attacks. KJCY has a regional focus operating from a studio in Mason City from which they are broadcasting Christian radio 24 hours a day. In May 2007 the Mason City translator (92.5FM) was switched over to the KJCY signal. With such a regionally-based ministry and staff, the station is able to provide a whole new level of Christian radio ministry to the people of North Central Iowa, Southern Minnesota and area churches and ministries. Such a full time regional presence and staff allows the station to present geographically appropriate news, weather, sports and church and community events. Also, when severe weather approaches, cancellations and notices are broadcast on a timely basis. The vision and direction of the ministry is guided by the Minn-Iowa Christian Broadcasting Board of Directors. In their unpaid positions, these members of the Board of Directors seek first the will of God and needs of people in establishing policy and direction for the ministry of KJCY. While KJCY is not affiliated with any denomination or church, all of the staff and board members are involved in their own local church bodies. Standing alongside the Church, the goal of KJCY is to present the ministry of the Word of God through teaching programs and Christian music, knowing that as we encourage people to spend time in His Word it is the Holy Spirit who will "lead into all truth".
