WSAT went on the air in 1946 featuring a variety format. Known for many years as "The Family Station". WSAT carried the New York Yankee's ... See more baseball games in the early to mid sixties and later joined the Atlanta Braves network. WSAT also was one of the first stations in North Carolina to carry the UNC football and basketball games. In the original days of the Tar Heels network, Ray Reeve was the play by play announcer and Bill Curry was the color analyst. Later WSAT carried a few Duke football and basketball games with Add Penfield. The personalities of the past include morning show hosts Grady Cole Jr., Oravl Cox, and Russ McIntyre. Russ is well known for his great voice and his community involvement. Bob Mason, " Music with Mason" covered the radio on weeknights 9 till Midnight.
