WBGH-CA is the Class A NBC-affiliated television station for New York's Eastern Southern Tier licensed to Binghamton, New York. It broadcasts on local digital UHF ... See more channel 20. WBGH-CA is sister to ABC affiliate WIVT and the two share studios and a website. In 1995, the station started broadcasting on analog VHF channel 8 with the call sign W08DL with a simulcast of WETM in Elmira, owned by Smith Broadcasting. In 1997, W08DL upgraded to low-powered status and changed its call sign to WBGH-LP. In time, it started some of its own programming but continued to air WETM's newscasts. In 1998, WBGH moved to UHF channel 20 to make way for another televsions station's digital signal on channel 8. In 2000, Smith Broadcasting sold WGBH-LP to the Ackerley Group of Seattle, Washington which also entered into an agreement to take over operations of WETM. With this sale, WBGH's ended simulcasting all of WETM programming. WBGH moved its operations into the studios of its sister station WIVT. Shortly after, it upgraded to Class A status and changed call letters to WBGH-CA. Ackerley was bought out by Clear Channel Communications in 2002, who then sold the station to to Providence Equity Partners in 2008.
